FAQs
Does the price include object storage costs?
No, the price listed above is in addition to any storage costs from using your cloud providers object storage. The cost of object storage from public cloud providers like Google and Amazon is typically between $0.02 and $0.03 per GB-mo as well as some smaller fees for each object storage operation. For a CloudBD disk running on AWS, each 1TB of disk space used has an approximate cost of $23 for the S3 storage and $10 for the CloudBD disk driver. Additionally, reading from and writing to the disk incurs S3 request charges of approximately $3 per 1TB written and $0.25 per 1TB read.
How does my monthly usage get calculated for billing?
We follow Amazon’s method of calculating S3 usage for your CloudBD usage. The volume of storage billed in a month is based on the average storage used throughout the month. We periodically measure the number of bytes in use for each disk to calculate each disk’s daily Byte-Hours used. At the end of the month we sum all disk’s daily Byte-Hours and divide by the number of hours in the current month to calculate the total Byte-Month used. Byte-Month is converted to GiB-Month and then we deduct the free tier 1536GiB to get your billable total GiB-Month used. Disks blocks cannot be partially written so any disk blocks with at least 1 byte of data stored and not subsequently trimmed will cause that entire block to count towards your monthly usage GiB-Hours.
Am I charged when I enter my credit card to upgrade?
No, there is no cost to upgrade. CloudBD disks are pay as you go and you are only charged on disk usage over the free tier. When you upgrade to Professional tier, you unlock the ability to create larger disk capacity than the free tier. Only when your GiB-hrs usage in a given month exceeds the free tier will your card be charged. Charges are made automatically near the start of the following month.
Will taxes be included in my monthly invoice?
Sales tax will be collected for customers using the software in New York. We may start collecting sales tax for customers in other states when required by law.
Do I still get 1.5TiB free when I upgrade?
Yes, when you upgrade you will continue to receive the first 1.5TiB usage for free each month.
